Lohri is a popular Punjabi festival celebrated by people from the punjab region of south asia. The origins of Lohri are many and link the festival to Punjab region .Many people believe the festival commemorates the passing of the winter solstice as Lohri was originally celebrated on winter solstice day being the shortest day and the longest night of the year. |
Vaisakhi

The Sikhs celebrate this festival as a collective birthday of the “Khalsa Brotherhood” which was created by Guru Gobind Singh, the 10th Guru of the Sikhs, in the year 1699.The harvest festival is also characterised by the folk dance, Bhangra which traditionally is a harvest dance

Vasant Panchami
Vasant Panchami(also called Basant Panchami) refers to the following festivals,the religious Hindu festival of Saraswati puja also called Shree Panchami, Sufi Basant observed in Sufi shrines, the seasonal spring festival of Vasant Panchami observed in many regions, the Basant festival of kites of the Punjab region, observance in Gurdwaras as a Sikh festival, the birthday of the Deo-Sun God in Bihar and a harvest festival. The festivals are celebrated on the fifth day of Magha.

Raksha Bandhan
Raksha Bandhan also called Rakhi Purnima or simply Rakhi in many parts of India is a Hindu religious and secular festival.In simple words, Raksha bandhan means "Bond of Protection" .The festival celebrates the love and duty between brothers and sisters. It is also popularly used to celebrate any brother-sister relationship between men and women who may or may not be biologically related.The festival is also celebrated by many communities as a secular festival. On Raksha Bandhan, sisters tie a rakhi (sacred thread) on her brother's wrist. This symbolizes the sister's love and prayers for her brother's well-being, and the brother's lifelong vow to protect her. |
Teeyan
Teeyan (Punjabi: ਤੀਆਂ) is the Punjabi name of the festival of Teej which is celebrated in Punjab and Haryana(where it is also called Haryali teej) which is dedicated to the onset of the monsoon and focuses on daughters and sisters.Whether or not a married woman goes to her parents, brothers take a gift set to their sisters called a 'sandhara'. A sandhara includes a Punjabi Suit/sari, laddoo, bangles, mehndi (henna) and a swing.The festival of teeyan centres on girls and women getting together in the village green and tying swings to the trees. The festival gathers momentum in the teeyan Gidha.Traditional bolyan which are sung to dance Gidha include:
